BEV’S BAGELS
Detroit, MI
Bev’s Bagels became a pop-up sensation before landing on their first brick and mortar space in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood. By embracing the nostalgic charm of the matriarch the business is named after, Detroit’s first bagel diner was born.
Tasked with transforming an existing 250 sf grab & go storefront into a place that welcomed and held the bagel-loving community from both near and far, we implemented a classic diner bar in butter yellow. The result is a space where patrons can engage one another or the fun-loving staff making their sandwiches behind the bar.

Contemporary acrylic sheets are layered on the bar surround to recreate the amber color of classic acrylic and glass furniture of the 1960s. Alexander Girard checkered fabric covers the bar stools, bringing in softness and tying the nostalgic vibe to Michigan’s midcentury design roots.

With the support of a local artist and fabricator, Black Helmut, galvanized unistrut lines the walls and provides a framework through which food, art, merch, and menus are organized within the compact space.
The warm yellow reaches the exterior of Bev’s Bagels, highlighting the space in the adjacent Core City Park.
